Please note, I do not add new books to my website until I actually have them in stock, as too many times in the past there have been the so called check's in the mail issues with problems from release dates to shipping and so on.  Many of the new titles you see around I will carry and when I do have the book in stock they will be posted immediately.

THE BATTLE OF THE WOLCHOW KESSEL IN PRIMARY GERMAN DOCUMENTS VOLUME I: THE XXXVIII ARMEE KORPS IN THE BATTLE OF THE WOLCHOW KESSEL

edited by Brian Burmeister, 726 pages.

(Accompanying this book is The Wolchow Kessel Operational Battle Maps.)
In January of 1942 the Soviets launched an offensive against the Germans in the area of the Wolchow River. Their goal was the total destruction of the 18. Army. The Soviets managed to drive a 75km wedge into the German lines. The harsh terrain and stiffening German resistance eventually brought the offensive to a halt, well short of their intended goal. By May of 1942 the Germans were ready to launch a counterattack to reduce the bulge in their lines.

For the first time in English, the German actions during the battle of the Wolchow Kessel are brought into the light by translating the original German reports.

The book also includes a German/English glossary and appendixes. This is the first volume of a multi-volume work on the Battle of the Wolchow Kessel which aims to translate most of the German military reports during the battle.

THE BATTLE OF THE WOLCHOW KESSEL MAP SET IN SLIPCASE

The Wolchow Kessel Operational Battle Maps are the accompanying map set for the book The Battle of the Wolchow Kessel in Primary German Documents, Volume I.  These are all the maps that you will need for the first four volumes of the Wolchow Kessel project.  An aditional mapset will be issued with the release of Volume V of the Wolchow Kessel project.

Table of Contents for the Wolchow Kessel Operational Battle Maps:
1.Wolchow Kessel Battle Maps from May 22 to July 7, 1942.  48 Maps in this grouping.  The originals of these maps can be found at the National Archives in Record Group 242, Lage Ost Maps, Box 17:  26 May - 27 June 1942 and Box 18: 28 June to 17 July 1942.  These maps show the Battle of the Wolchow Kessel from an operational perspective.
2.Two Misc. “hand drawn” XXXVIII. A.K. maps. Original locations at the National Archives in T314-905-1234 and T314-905-1245.
3.One 58. I.D. Reporting Sectors Map.  Original location at the National Archives in T315-996-1489.  Even though this map is not an “operational level” map, I included it as it gives the reader/researcher a good idea of where all of the various corridors/Schneisen were located. It also identifies some other locations that were found in the XXXVIII. Korps reports, but are not found on any of the other maps in this set (i.e. the Kastenwald, the Polistj-Bach Lichtung etc.)
4.Four tactical level maps covering most of the Kessel area (devoid of any tactical markings).

54 maps total.  These maps cover Volumes I through V of the Battle of the Wolchow Kessel in Primary German Documents.  With the publishing of Volume V of the Battle of the Wolchow Kessel in Primary German Documents, we will publish the remainder of the tactical level battle maps.

The maps from groups 1, 3 and 4 use scans of the original German tactical/operational level maps as the background map.  The unit symbols and front lines were then superimposed onto these original German maps.  The maps from group 2 were “hand-drawn” from the originals in the archives.
