TANKOGRAD 5100 KRAKA THE LEGENDARY AIRBORNE VEHICLE OF THE GERMAN FALLSCHIRMTRUPPE DEVELOPMENT - TECHNOLOGY - VARIANTS
Book Type: S,O by Jochen Vollert, At the beginning of the 1960s, the German Army was still in its build-up phase, and the search was on for an air-transportable weapon carrier that would be light and robust enough to be dropped by parachute alongside paratroopers. It also had to be compact enough for deployment inside transport helicopters or as an external load. After an almost ten-year test phase of prototypes and various mission kits, the “Kraka” motor cart was finally delivered to the Bundeswehr Airborne Division in 1974 as the “0.75 ton Truck, Folding, Flatbed”, where it proceeded to serve for more than 20 years. This publication is the first to deal with the development history, technology and active service of the Kraka in the airborne forces of the Bundeswehr in such detail. Special emphasis is placed on technical details of the basic vehicle and the numerous mission kits such as anti-tank, automated cannon, field stretcher, recoilless rifle and others. Supported by hundreds of illustrations and extensive textual background information, the history of the legendary Kraka can now be presented in detail for the first time!
